I live in the US and am travelling to Australia. Can you help me with plug and converter information? Please?

Question: I am just in need to recharge my digital camera. I know I need an adaptor to make the prongs fit, but do I really need a converter too? I was fine using just an adaptor in Europe, but dunno if that is different. Can ya help?

Answer: I may have misunderstood, but I think you may be confusing two items here. The adapter is the item you need to allow American plugs to fit into Australian wall sockets. These are available at the airport, and labelled to show US to Australian. The converter you are talking about probably means the voltage difference. Australia wall sockets are desgined for 220V-240V. Hence, if you have any device which works on 110V-120V (normal American standard), you will need to have a converter to avoid destroying your device. These are also easily available, in some cases, as one device, i.e. converter + adaptor.
